Between June and September, Cyprus pools work hard. High temperatures, strong sun, heavy use and dust from the air all speed up the chemistry that keeps water safe. A pool that looked perfect on Monday can turn cloudy by the weekend if it isn't maintained on a proper schedule.
A realistic summer routine
For most private pools in the peak season, we recommend a weekly professional visit, supported by a couple of quick owner checks in between. That usually means:
- Weekly: skim, brush and vacuum, empty baskets, test and balance the water, and check the filter and pump.
- Twice weekly (owner): a quick glance at water level and clarity, and a skim of any leaves or insects.
- Monthly: a deeper filter clean and an equipment check to catch small problems early.
Why water balance matters most
Clear water isn't the same as balanced water. In the heat, chlorine burns off faster and pH drifts, which can irritate skin and eyes and let algae take hold. Testing pH, chlorine and stabiliser every visit — and correcting them — is what actually keeps a pool healthy, not just topping up chemicals by guesswork.
Heavy use and holiday lets
If your pool serves a holiday rental or a busy family, treat it as high-demand: more swimmers means more sunscreen, more debris and faster chemical use. Guest-ready pools benefit from visits timed around changeovers so the water is perfect when new guests arrive.
The cost of skipping weeks
Skipping maintenance to save money usually backfires. A neglected pool can go green in days, and a full green-to-clean recovery costs far more in chemicals, time and equipment strain than steady weekly care. Consistency is the cheapest way to own a pool.
